KTVU had the names of the pilots of the Asiana plane crash. The only problem with that is that these weren’t the real names.
FYI, I have always hated KTVU. Growing up in the Bay, I always thought they were the worst out of the four major local stations. They were boring, had no enthusiasm and really were uninformed all the way around. I thought Dennis Richmond was one of the worst and boring anchors ever. And the sports team there really didn’t know anything about sports.
With that said, we have the above video. Nobody fact checks. Nobody reads anything out loud and wonders if that sounded right. And what made it worse is that the order it was read was the chronological order of the events that happened during the flight. “Sum Ting Wong,” “Wi Tu Lo,” “Ho Lee Fuk” and “Bang Ding Ow” should be read as this:
Pilot 1: “Captain, something wrong?”
Captain: “We’re too low!”
Pilot 3: “Holy fuck!”
Pilot 4: “Ow!”
This comes days after they bragged about their coverage of this crash, mocking KGO.
Update: NTSB confirms one of their interns made up the names. We now know it took one idiot to make the joke and an entire news broadcast team to not do their job and actually look what they were putting on air.
But in another interview, they said KTVU made it up.
