About a year ago I saw “The Circle” at Barnes & Noble and put it on my list of books to read. I would later find out that the book was being turned into a movie.
Why wouldn’t it be? The idea and concept of the story was intriguing and I wanted to read it. So I bought the book and read it about a month before the movie’s release date.
I liked the book. I felt compelled to sympathize with characters. It wasn’t overly serious but it also was a perfect commentary on what we have become as a society.
Then the movie reviews came in. It has a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and I have read that the first part of the movie is nice but the film breaks away from the feeling of the book. The ending is supposedly a bummer and it just felt so two-dimensional.
This sucks because I really want to love this movie. But I am afraid to go to the theater tomorrow with a bad perception of it. I can’t compare it to the book when I watch but I still have to because there has to be a standard. The story must be told right.
Let’s hope it’s not too bad but I don’t know if I will like it being so different.
